Michael Coey
REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST BSC. PT, FCAMPT, CAFCI
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Michael graduated from the Physiotherapy Program at UBC in 1999, and in 2005 achieved the Advanced Manual Therapy Fellowship Designation (FCAMPT) from the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy. In 2007, he completed further post-graduate education and earned his certification in Medical Acupuncture (CAFCI). For over two decades Michael was the owner of a highly successful multidisciplinary clinic in Victoria.
Michael specializes in treating a wide range of conditions, including pain and dysfunction of the ankle, knee, lower back, neck and shoulder. He has a special interest in treating plantar fasciitis, foot and knee dysfunction. Michael incorporates manual therapy, therapeutic exercise prescriptions, medical acupuncture and education into his one-on-one therapy treatments, with the goal being to regain optimal health for his clients.
Michael’s many notable achievements include serving as Physical Therapist for the Canadian Team at the 2001 Francophone Games in Quebec; Physical Therapist for the Canadian Team at the 2002 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Games in Texas; Head Physical Therapist for the Canadian Rowing Team at the 2004 U23 World Rowing Championships in Poland; Physical Therapist for the University of Victoria’s Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field Teams for multiple National Championships and North American Training Camps; Physical Therapist for Alberta Ballet & Ballet BC for their Nutcracker and regular season performances (2004-2010); and serving as a privately hired mentor to post-graduate physical therapists preparing for their Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physical Therapy Exams.
Michael has participated in a variety of team sports, including basketball and volleyball, and competed at the national level and on the UVic and UBC Varsity teams in Track and Cross Country running. In his youth, Michael represented the Lower Vancouver Island while playing Metro soccer for four years. Michael avidly enjoys the outdoors as a runner, hiker and cyclist.
